EYES

Blue-Eyed Girl

Blue eyes are the way to go this summer and were seen on runways at Chanel, Sonia Rykiel and Monique Lhuillier in anything from delicate strokes of eyeliner to all out splashes of color across the eyelids. Electric blue eyeliner at Hugo Boss and Missoni made a bold statement, Chanel’s pastel blue eye-mask made for a more daring look, while at Diane Von Furstenberg butterfly-inspired shimmering teal eyelids gave a soft and romantic vibe, proving just how versatile this trend can be. When it comes to the blue eye trend just about anything goes; go for a smoky eye with navy blue, go all-out 80’s with a bright blue shade smeared across the lids, or start off slow with just a dash of liner!

Brows Au Naturelle

Bold brows ruled the runways for Spring-Summer 2016. Whether gelled and brushed or penciled in, the natural look seems to be here for the long haul. As a basic rule of thumb, your arch should line up with the outer edge of your pupil. For those who need a little extra help check out Ramy The Brow Master Customizable Stencils; this handy little product takes the guess work out of eyebrow grooming and helps to perfectly shape and define your arches. When filling in your brows opt for a product that is two shades lighter than your hair if you’re a brunette, or a taupe pencil for blondes and redheads and make short angled strokes in the direction of your hair growth. Update your beauty bag for Summer 2016 with the latest in eyebrow products/pencils, kits and gels.

HAIR

Do the Twist

Summer 2016 hair is all about ease with looks that anyone can recreate at home. One of the biggest trends to come out of Summer 2016 fashion week is the braid.

This season’s braids are tight and functional as opposed to the loose, romantic boho styles usually associated with summer looks. At Céline and Proenza Schouler tight plaits hung long and straight on models’ backs as they made their way down the runway for a sleek, polished and slightly edgy look, while at Louis Vuitton thin miniature plaits were woven into long hair to achieve another simple and easily replicated style with a twist! The rope braid seen at Public School is another simple way to incorporate Summer 2016 trends into your look. To achieve this look at home place hair in a tight ponytail and divide into two sections. Twist the two sections to the end of the hair, smooth over any flyaways and you are good to go!

Wet ‘n’ Wild

Of the array of hair inspiration served up on Summer 2016 runways the wet look still seems to be going strong with several variations on the trend presented and numerous possibilities to get creative. At Kenzo it was all about ‘straight out of the pool’ hair with gel applied to locks which were then braided in sections and later unraveled to reveal wet look waves. At Missoni mousse and hairspray were used to achieve the style while at Dsquared2 it was all about the sexy surfer girls with long wet locks pushed back off the face. A versatile look that can be achieved using high shine hair oil, mousse, wax, gel or hairspray, the wet look trend works well on any hair length or style be it a pixie cut, long slicked back style or a wet look ponytail.

COMPLEXION

Whether you opt for a bold lip or prefer to play up your eyes, a radiant complexion is key. This season is all about luminous, healthy-looking skin. The ‘no makeup’ makeup trend is still going strong and provides a timeless everyday look, while the bronze goddess was equally popular on the runway with Balmain, Rag & Bone and Tommy Hilfiger all giving their models a sun kissed glow. The Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat Foundation promises eight hours of beauty sleep in a drop with its new advanced formula that defies fatigue and provides better coverage than ever before, while the Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base is a whisper-light fluid that illuminates the complexion, resulting in the much-sought after Burberry glow. The All Day Extreme Wear Concealer from Estée Lauder is another great product that works wonders towards providing you with a fresh-faced appearance and flawless complexion – with non-stop 24-hour wear, dark circles and imperfections will be out of sight! Bourjois’ City Radiance Foundation has a light and airy formula that hydrates the skin continuously for 24 hours and protects it from aggressive urban factors, while the Radiance Reveal Concealer corrects, illuminates and provides 24-hour hydration. For a sun kissed final touch, Bobbi Brown’s Malibu Nudes Blush Duos will have you feeling like a bronze goddess, while Chanel’s Sunkiss Ribbon Blush brightens cheeks with a radiant palette of pink, beige and coral, resulting in a smooth, satin finish and the perfect glow!

LIPS

Red Raven

Nothing says confidence like a signature red lip and while the look is classic, this season designers were united on the trend proving it to be the color of Summer 2016. From deep crimson to tropical reds, if you haven’t given the high-impact hue a go, now is the time to do it! Whether in a satin finish, patent lacquer or matte, the choice is yours with the key to pulling off this trend being precision of application. For the perfect crimson pout use a brush to apply your lipstick starting from the middle of your lips and working your way out. Next take a matching red liner and apply it around the edges of your lips being sure to emphasize your cupid’s bow. For a simple daytime look keep the eye makeup to a minimum and focus on the lips. The fiery hue appeared on countless runways for Summer 2016 from Jason Wu and DKNY to Céline and Dolce & Gabbana.

Vampire Lips

While darker lipstick shades are normally reserved for the cooler months, this season all your preconceptions go out the window with designers featuring deep berries and purples on their Spring-Summer 2016 runways. Dark, moody lips with a stained ombré finish were spotted at Anna Sui while a rich purple shade at Cushnie et Ochs channeled a gothic vibe. At Burberry lips were prepped with foundation after which several layers of lipstick were applied with makeup artists blotting between each application and diffusing the edges with a moist cotton swab. A little pressed powder gave the color a matte finish, while a touch of highlighter enhanced the Cupid’s bow. When wearing such dark shades skip the eye makeup to achieve a modern look.

NAILS

Avariety of exciting nail trends were spotted on the summer runway shows with nudes, naturals and metallic being the standout colors of the season. The classic French manicure was given a twist with nail artists replacing the standard white tip with bursts of color in everything from orange to green or foil accents. Bejeweled nails are also a big hit this season; for those who are after just a hint of sparkle, layer a clear glitter polish over a nude shade for a subtle yet on trend look, or take a walk on the wild side and experiment with the trend by pairing neons or reds with a glitter top coat. The graphic stripes trend, which was so popular with designers in their clothing and accessories, carried through into nail designs, thus offering the perfect opportunity to let your fingers do the talking. Mix it up with metallic or bold colors and experiment with both horizontal and vertical stripes in varying widths for a unique look. A perfectly manicured nude nail is always an option – whether in a sheer shade or neutral hue you can’t go wrong with the au naturelle style, or you can go for your favorite color in a matte finish for a totally on trend look. From silver and gold to bronze, chromes and mirror-like jewel tones, metallics proved themselves to be the season’s statement-makers.
