Summer 2016 Fashion Trends

Summer 2016 fashion trends are giving us a lot to be excited about this season. Luxurious nightwear will see the light of day with sexy slips and two-piece pajama-inspired sets showcased on all the major runways including that of Burberry Prorsum, Rochas and Haider Ackermann.  Romantic ruffles provided effortless elegance at Balmain and Salvatore Ferragamo while at Gucci racy transparent ruffles left little to the imagination. The warmer weather lends itself to showing off a little skin and the bare shoulder trend gives us plenty of opportunities to do so this summer; be it off the shoulder, asymmetrical necklines or x-shaped silhouettes, giving the cold shoulder has never been more acceptable! Last season’s high shine trend is still going strong; be it satin or sparkles, all out shimmer like the dresses at Temperley London or a standout shiny statement piece added to your outfit like those showcased at Isabel Marant or Karen Walker, now is your time to shine! Spanish influences in black and red dominated the runway at Oscar de la Renta and Proenza Schouler and are set to be a fiery new favorite for Summer 2016, while at Alexander Wang, Louis Vuitton and Balmain mesh and netting was incorporated into everything from tops to dresses. Finally, stripes in an assortment of sizes and colors were seen on countless runways for Summer 2016; from rainbow colors at Chloé to patriotic stripes at Marc Jacobs, there seems to be a stripe for every occasion!

Romantic Ruffles
Romance is in the air for Summer 2016 with ruffles proving to be a key trend this season. They came in all shapes and sizes, adorning collars, hemlines and forming all-over cascading tiers for an elegant and romantic look. Miu Miu, 3.1 Phillip Lim and Louis Vuitton featured Victorian-inspired necklines with high neck ruffles while Giambattista Valli channeled a retro vibe with tiered sleeves and ruffled skirts paired with modern plunging necklines. Transparent ruffles were showcased on countless runways including that of Alexander McQueen and had a soft and romantic feel while Dries Van Noten also played with transparent fabrics to pull off a 3D look with ruffled tiers. Whether big or small, structured or free flowing, grown up or girly, flirtatious or feminine, minimal or head-to-toe, it’s all about the ruffles this season!

The Cold Shoulder
Bare shoulders in one form or another were seen on practically every runway this season in everything from dresses and tops to eveningwear and wedding gowns. Proenza Schouler, Givenchy, Jason Wu and Derek Lam interpreted the trend with an x-shaped silhouette that proved popular among the major designers while at Edun, Prabal Gurung and Hugo Boss it was all about the off-the-shoulder look. Asymmetrical necklines were also spotted at Christopher Kane, Sacai, Versace, Rag & Bone and Isabel Marant among others, while bare shouldered models at Oscar de la Renta, Erdem and Lanvin showcased shoulder cut-outs in tops and dresses. A flattering silhouette on any body shape with several variations to choose from this is one of Summer 2016’s hottest fashion trends, guaranteed to be a favorite!

High Shine
Designers took last season’s high shine trend to a whole new level experimenting with different fabrics, textures and colors. If ever there was a time to add a little glitz and glitter to your wardrobe and get playful with your look, Summer 2016 is the time to do it! Louis Vuitton channeled a futuristic vibe with ruched foil mini-dresses, while at Karen Walker lamé-like leather stole the show. At Loewe classic sweaters were embellished with mirror pieces for a creative take on the trend while at Temperley London it was all out glamour with shimmering silver dresses sparkling down the runway. At Gucci and Emilio Pucci high shine took on vibrant hues while Victoria Beckham kept it simple with silk and satin in everything from dresses to jumpsuits. Be it satin or sparkles, whatever tickles your fancy, one thing is for sure: Summer 2016 is your time to shine!

Latino Lover
Runways were red hot for this season with Spanish-inspired looks featuring everything from ruffles and flamenco skirts to fiery red hues and brocade textures seen at Oscar de la Renta, Jonathan Simkhai and Diane Von Furstenberg among many others. An abundance of ruffles and frills was seen on countless runways with flamenco-style skirts at Blugril, Balmain and Michael Kors, while at Proenza Schouler, Roberto Cavalli and Salvatore Ferragamo, off-the-shoulder ensembles reminiscent of bohemian flamenco-inspired outfits gave a positively Latino vibe. The Latin influences carried on with embroidered details, colorful beading and even tassels adorning both garments and accessories. With the Latino trend set to be a season standout this summer, it’s time to channel your sexy and sensual side. Ola!

Pajama Party
Pieces normally reserved for the boudoir will see the light of day this summer with sleepwear proving to be the hottest new outerwear this season. At Céline slinky slip dresses adorned with lace were seen making their way down the runway, at Saint Laurent the nightwear inspired slip dress was seen in chiffon while at Emilio Pucci it was layered over fine knits. Alexander Wang, Balenciaga and Calvin Klein also brought the bedroom to the runway and were all about silk and satin with nightie and lingerie style dresses. The pajama party kept going strong with designers such as Dolce & Gabbana releasing two-piece pajama sets from the confines of the bedroom to the flashing lights of the runway. At Thakoon blue PJ-inspired pieces trimmed with red further solidified the trend proving that there are more than enough daytime pajama options for everyone this season!
